Windhoek Lager - the adverts

As Windhoek Lager is promoted in this country you will see publicity championing the beautiful untouched landscape of its homeland, Namibia and you will be told that the beer is the taste of adventure.

In Namibia and South Africa where the beer has a massive following the advertising focuses on the beer's purity and quality. I share some of the TV adverts below. I thought they were pretty funny. I hope you like them too.

Are you getting paid for advertising this stuff, or doing it for free?

Barm I would always declare an interest if I was ever lucky enough to be paid for anything I wrote. I thought the adverts were almost up to John Smith's standard for humour particularly as the ads we will see in this country will be the wide open wilderness of Namibia - ie posters of sand dunes. Am I wrong to blog them ? Steve

Who am I to say what's right or wrong? I wouldn't do it, as I don't think my blog exists to give the likes of Diageo free advertising space. You think the product is mediocre, so why promote it?

Barm I take your point particularly with such a megacorp as Diageo. One of the reasons I blog is to pass on information that might not have crossed others paths. I was one of only two beer bloggers at the launch event; most of the audience was the industry suits. I have not seen the beer mentioned anywhere else and it has the potential given its backing to be a major player in the packaged beer market and a much needed beer boost for Diageo. I also think the adverts are funny and worthy of a wider audience - and much better than the ones we will eventually see in this country. Cheers for commenting. It is important to help us (me ?) keep perspective. Steve

A major player? I dunno about that, isn't the market for average-tasting packaged lager pretty much saturated already?
